The Quiet After Plenty
2026-05-13
The quiet after plenty is the strange emptiness that follows getting what you wanted. The dish you waited for, eaten. The trip taken. The job started. Want was loud; arrival is quiet, and the quiet feels like loss. This is not ingratitude. It is what happens when an engine that was running on anticipation suddenly has nothing left to anticipate. The fix, when there is one, is not more wanting. It is letting the quiet be the room you arrived in, instead of the room you have to leave.
